Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib) is a bacterium that can cause infections of the mouth, throat and lungs, through to meningitis or sepsis, particularly in infants and young children. The Hib vaccination should not be confused with the seasonal flu vaccination against influenza. Vaccination, often combined with other vaccines, is recommended for children under 5 years old.
