Fractures are broken bones. A pertrochanteric fracture is a broken femur that involves the greater trochanter. This fracture is common in older adults with osteoporosis as a result of a fall on the hips. The preferred therapy is surgery, where the trochanter is stabilised. The Swiss Atlas of Healthcare shows the frequency of inpatient treatment of pertrochanteric fractures.
