Mammography is an imaging technique that uses x-rays to examine the breasts. It allows care providers to see the breast tissue and structure. The aim of mammography is the (early) detection of breast cancer. Screening programmes for the early detection of breast cancer are offered in a number of cantons. The Swiss Atlas of Healthcare shows the overall frequency of mammograms in outpatient settings.
