Iron infusions refer to the intravenous delivery of iron replacement products. Iron infusions are administered to treat iron deficiency anaemia. The symptoms of iron deficiency anaemia are tiredness, lack of energy and hair loss. More severe symptoms are shortness of breath, dizziness, palpitations and pale skin. The causes of iron deficiency anaemia must be identified before an infusion is given. The Swiss Atlas of Healthcare shows iron infusions dispensed by outpatient care providers in women and in total (women and men).
